Gardening, Greeting and Getting Involved: Lend a Hand and Volunteer at the Growing Center in Summer
The Growing Center’s programming season is in full swing, offering a full slate of public events from April to October for the first time in five years. This is when our volunteer workforce is the most crucial! We encourage both potential and long-time volunteers to dive right in and help out. Below are imminent and long-term opportunities for volunteers to get more involved. Join us, and make a difference in your community, while having fun and meeting new people!
Volunteer Orientations are in full swing, and are taking place the Second Saturday (9:30-11:00) and Fourth Tuesday (5:00-6:30) of each month. If you’re new this year, signing up for one should be your first step. And if it’s been a few years since you last took an orientation, we encourage you to sign up for one again, as things have changed a lot since our renovation in 2019.

Help Collect Nature Materials for Upcoming “Fairy” Events!

We’re looking for river and beach stones; seashells; tree bark; sticks; and pinecones to be included in the kits - PLUS supermarket lettuce/spinach containers. We’ll need even more materials in September for the Gathering of the Fairies event on September 24. To help gather materials or help put the kits together, contact Betsy at blarkin@thegrowingcenter.org.
Help Staff the Growing Center Table at the Union Square Farmers Market!
Every Third Saturday, May-November, 8:30 am to 1:30 pm (90-minute shifts)
The Friends are the newest nonprofit member of Union Square Main Streets, and we are looking at forging more ties with area businesses in the hopes of becoming a stronger partner in our changing city. Union Square Main Streets has given us a Community Table every Third Saturday of the month, which we share with a different area nonprofit each time, based on a theme. To volunteer, contact Morgan at volunteer@thegrowingcenter.org.
