Visiting you again… Visitandote de nuevo…

Hello again, it’s been a long time without enjoying this marvelous and natural place.

My name is Yashmina Alvarez, I have been working at CAAS Head Start. Before the pandemic, my co-workers, students and I used to visit the Somerville Growing Center every Tuesday. We had great experiences in this amazing place. Each week we encouraged nature play for healthy child development.

In 2020, when the pandemic started, we had to stop visiting the garden, so sad! We started our remote learning, but the wish to come back and be in person stayed in our hearts. We never lost our connection with the Somerville Growing Center, we kept in touch with the hope to enjoy this beautiful place again.

This spring time our Director (Jessie Leonard) brought the idea to have a meet up with our students following the guidelines of the Center for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), this idea seemed fabulous to me, to reconnect with my little students and what better place than the Somerville Growing Center to meet up (Yeah!!).

I know nature offers an ideal environment for children to use their senses. Seeing my students running, laughing, watering plants, inventing new games in nature, planting, and hearing nature sounds is priceless.

Hola de nuevo, mucho tiempo sin disfrutar de este maravilloso y natural lugar. Mi nombre es Yashmina Alvarez, he estado trabajando en CAAS Head Start. Antes de la pandemia, mis compañeros de trabajo y mis estudiantes solíamos visitar el Somerville Growing Center todos los martes, tuvimos grandes experiencias en este increíble lugar. Cada semana fomentamos el juego con la naturaleza para un desarrollo infantil saludable.

En 2020 paramos a visitar el jardín desde que comenzó la pandemia, muy triste. Comenzamos nuestro aprendizaje remoto, pero nuestro deseo de volver y ver en persona se mantuvo en nuestro corazón. Nunca perdimos la conexión con el Somerville Growing Center, nos mantuvimos en contacto con la esperanza de volver a disfrutar de este hermoso lugar.

Esta primavera, nuestra directora (Jessie Leonard) trajo la idea de reunirnos con nuestros estudiantes siguiendo las pautas de los Centros para el Control y la Prevención de Enfermedades (CDC), esta idea me pareció fabulosa, para volver a conectarme con mis pequeños estudiantes y qué mejor lugar que el Somerville Growing Center to Meet Up (Yeah!!).

Sé que la naturaleza ofrece un entorno ideal para que los niños usen sus sentidos. Ver a mis alumnos correr, reír, regar las plantas, inventar nuevos juegos en la naturaleza, plantar y escuchar los sonidos de la naturaleza no tiene precio.
