Storytime in the Garden

Presenting Sailaja Joshi of Mango and Marigold Press!

We are delighted to include storytime at the Growing Center as a part of our Virtual Programming. Sailaja Joshi, founder of Mango and Marigold Press, joined us in the garden in October for a special reading of two delightful children's books.

Mango and Marigold Press is an award-winning local independent publishing house that shares the sweet and savory stories of the South Asian experience and ensures that all children can see themselves as the heroes of their own stories.

Sai read to us from Finding Om, a story by Rashmi Bismark with pictures by Morgan Huff, and Bindiya in India, by Monique Chheda, MD, illustrated by Debasmita Dasgupta.

Bindiya in India, by Monique Kamaria Chheda, illustrated by Debasmita Dasgupta

Bindiya in India is the story of a young Indian American girl's first trip to India for an Indian wedding.

Weaving together Hindi and English, the children's illustrated book takes place in the 1990s. It follows Bindiya as she meets her extended family for the first time, celebrates Indian wedding traditions, and creates memories and bonds to last a lifetime.

Finding Om, by Rashmi Bismark, with pictures by Morgan Huff

Finding Om is an award-winning illustrated children's book that shares the story of Anu, an Indian African girl who explores the mantra Om with her beloved grandfather, Appuppa.

Through this wonderful, multicultural, intergenerational story, she begins to uncover techniques of mindfulness that readers can explore along with her.
