Maura Mendoza is "Going to the Growing Center!"

The Growing Center has a new song! “Going to the Growing Center” was written especially for us by the Salvadoran singer, Maura Mendoza.

Maura is known in our community for her beautiful voice and fun shows. Whether she is singing in English, Spanish, Portuguese, or Hindi, Maura delights audiences wherever she goes. We were so pleased that Maura could do a mini-concert at the end of August as part of our music series funded by the Somerville Arts Council. Because of COVID-19, we have been recording performances in the garden and posting videos from time to time on our website. For Maura’s mini-concert, we were able to even have a small audience––socially distanced and wearing masks, of course. In addition to “Growing at the Growing Center,” you can click these links to watch all of the songs from the show: "The Kind Song," "De Colores," and "Duerme, Duerme Negrito." Please share them with friends and community. One last note: you may notice that Maura and Guillermo are performing on our new stage area. The grape arbor needed to be replaced this summer, and we were so incredibly fortunate to have MassArt’s graduate architecture class design and build a new pergola. In addition, they also designed and built a completely new stage area. And it’s beautiful! (Come see for yourself during our weekly Open Hours on Tuesdays, from 5-7pm, Fridays, from 10am-12pm, and Saturdays, from 10:30am-12:30pm.) We can’t wait to start hosting programs again, but in the meantime, please enjoy (and get up and move to!) our brand new song, “Growing at the Growing Center.” Be well––we’ll get through this together! Liza Kitchell (FGCG board president)
