Volunteer Spotlight: Abigail Dickson

1. Who are you and and how did you first learn about the Growing Center? My name is Abby and I run a theater company for kids who want to do Shakespeare (Youthquake Theater). We have been performing at the Growing Center in the summer for the past 4 years. I first learned about the Growing Center when I was around six years old and I went to a "fairy night" there. It was a bunch of kids running around, having fun, and building fairy houses. A young child's paradise. That is when I discovered that the Growing Center is a magical place where community and beautiful plants abound. It was a perfect backdrop for my first show there, Shakespeare's "A Midsummer Night's Dream," which is full of fair

"Flight Song Collective" Seeks Volunteers

Flight Song Collective Wanted: Creative people to join the Flight Song Collective! The Collective is working on a two-part project… A SANCTUARY GARDEN & PRAYER FLAGS FOR POLLINATORS AND OTHER BENEFICIAL INSECTS Sanctuary Garden What: We’re making the Somerville Community Growing Center a welcoming place for our insect friends by providing nesting sites and designing & planting a garden with lots of irresistible pollen and nectar sources Meetup times: Monday afternoons from 3-5 pm from April 24-June 26. New Volunteer Orientation (April 29th)

Volunteers are the life-blood of the Growing Center—and there are so many ways to get involved!Come learn the history of the Growing Center, the basics of site operations and volunteer opportunities. Volunteer training is required for anyone who will be running a program, hosting an event, or wanting to compost on site. Registration is required! Seed Sale Order Pickup Information

We are excited the seeds have arrived from High Mowing! Come pick up your seeds on Saturday, April 22nd with two pick-up options: Morning: 10am-12pm at the Somerville Growing Center (22 Vinal Ave, Somerville) Afternoon: 1pm-3pm at SCATV, 90 Union Square, Somerville. If the weather is nice, we'll have a table outside - otherwise, we'll send instructions to you all on how to find us! Thank you again to everyone who placed their seed order. Annual Spring Garden Day (May 6th)

Spring Garden Day, May 6th, 1-3pm Itching to get outside, meet other Villans, exchange some seeds or seedlings? Join the annual Maypole Dance at 2pm, and enjoy the Red Herring Morris Dancers (and perhaps some of their dancing friends)? Free seeds available--all welcome to bring some to add, or seedlings or plants to exchange to get an affordable head start on the garden season.
